COOKING - the journey

MULTIDISCIPLINARY PROJECT

Conceived further in addition to the show "Cooking religion" (in 2006), this multidisciplinary project was created in 2007 and has grown during the artistic residence in Houilles in 2008. Itinerant and interactive, it continues to enrich itself over time and meetings.

Art, culture and food: a new regard 

This residence in Houilles has enabled EMTHEATRE to enrich its reflection on the relationship between culture, art and cuisine and to make new multidisciplinary proposals emerge. At the same time, the company was part of the life of the city and unveiled the creations during meetings, workshops and courses and it has shown the whole project during the Biennale of the young creation.

Designed in several stages, "Cooking – The journey" uses various forms of artistic expressions. Theatre, dance, video, installations, performances, translate this cultural and identity encounter offered by the kitchen. Through the metaphor of cooking, the project explores the themes of cultural identity and intermixing in a context marked by globalization.

In 2010, the Cité des Sciences entrusted to the company the direction of the artistic events for the exhibition Bon Appetit at Parc de la Villette.
Cooking-The journey continued to Romania, for the franco-romenian project PICS in partnership with CNRS, the Muséum d'Histoire Naturelle de Paris, the Institut d'Anthropologie de Bucarest, the Musée d'Anthropologie and the Palais de la Culture de Ploiesti.

This project has been in artistic residence at 104-Etablissement culturel de la Ville de Paris, in 2009. A double artistic residence was then awarded by the new direction in 2011-2012.

Cooking-The journey has been touring in France, Italy and Rumania, in various languages, french, italian and english.

The journey is composed of the shows «Cooking religion » and «E471-Food for the soul'; the sensory performances "Cooking", "Flavours of North Africa", " African Roots", " The taste for travel"... of the installations " Cooking Religion", "Tablecloths", " The Pyramid", " Tell me what you eat", " The pasta tree", ... and of workshops.

Not only is food a system of flavours, it is also a landscape of each culture. The kitchen is the most accessible level. To eat someone's cooking means crossing this threshold and inhabiting his landscape.
